It is when Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) and his companions were forced to move from Makkah to Madinah on the first day of Muharram in Circa 622 AD. Muharram's month history dates 1443 years back. Muharram month is also important because it was on the first day of the month, that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was forced to leave Makkah by the enemies of Islam and therefore he migrated from Makkah to Madinah. The month brings with it deep grief, despair, and despondency to Muslims who cry and howl on the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the son of Hazrat Ali and grandson of Prophet Muhammad SAW) in the Battle of Karbala. The word ‘Muharram’ is derived from the ‘haram’ which means forbidden and is the month of mourning. Muharram is one of the four most sacred months in Islam that holds great importance among Muslims across the world. Muharram marks the starting of the Islamic New Year and is the first month of the year as per the Islamic calendar that starts on July 31, 2022.
